St. Francis the 2nd?

No stranger to ruffling feathers and always stating it like it is, its hopeful to hear that Pope Francis is wading deep into the Climate Change issue by announcing an encyclical positioning the church’s stance on this century’s most urgent issue. The church’s scientists agree with the rest of the world’s scientist; that it’s human induced. Many of his constituents are based in areas of the globe that will be the first affected by significant sea level rises but the fact that he’s making connections between poverty and climate change shows how much of a deep thinker he is.

The Guardian’s John Vidal reports that “According to Vatican insiders, Francis will meet other faith leaders and lobby politicians at the general assembly in New York in September, when countries will sign up to new anti-poverty and environmental goals.”

Let’s hope they can string along other climate change denying Christians who mistakenly think the bible says “God helps those who help themselves.” The next generation of Catholics will be able to hold their head up high because of Pope Francis’ actions and hopefully not because their homes are under water.
